"Is this not Religion that I choose"

Introduction

“Is this not Religion that I choose: To loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and the break every yolk? Is it not the share your bread with the hungry, and to bring the homeless poor into your house, when you see the naked to cover them, and hide not yourself from your own flesh and blood.”

Isaiah 58:6-7

“God works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.”

Psalm 103:6

Over 100 Bible verses against oppression

There are over 100 Bible verses where God speaks out against oppression, and speaks up for justice. It is not only God’s obligation to do justice. It is expected that every single person acts and deals justly with their neighbor.

Even “non-believers” can see the value in social justice, in compassion, and morality. Who would not stop to help a drowning dog?

“What does God require of you, to love justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly before your God.”

Mica 6:8
